For nearly 40 years, Jim’s has been a thriving home services franchise business in Australia. We’re constantly expanding the geographical area we cover and the range of services we offer. Our success is due to the hard work of the individuals who operate a franchise and the employees who work for them, continually giving their best efforts to ensure customers receive real value and quality results.
Providing high quality customer service is also an important part of the Jim’s experience. Our skip bin hire service in Gympie is no exception, and can have complete confidence when you hire with us.
You definitely won’t need a permit if you’re able to fit your skip bin entirely within the boundaries of your own privately held land. It’s only when a skip bin needs to be placed on what is defined as public land that you may need to obtain council approval.
Gympie has a very relaxed stance in regard to skip bins (and waste disposal in general) when compared to many other Australian local government councils. If you need help with getting approval for locating a skip bin in Gympie for use on public land, you can rely on Jim’s Skip Bins. We do, however, strongly advise that it’s best to locate the bin on your own land, and that removes the need for any bureaucracy to be involved at all.
Jim’s Skip Bins are easy to understand and use. Unwanted items can be tossed into the interior, vanishing permanently from your sight. Do be aware that certain items aren’t allowed to be disposed of in a skip bin (or any other bin). Generally you should be able to determine which items are not allowed by the nature of the items, but some are more obvious than others.
For example, you can probably guess you shouldn’t throw out things like petrol, dynamite, or medical waste. Throwing these things out in a Gympie skip bin could obviously cause harm in certain conditions which are easily met.
Some of the other items you shouldn’t throw out can be a bit less obvious. Batteries are a good example. Not everyone knows that these can’t be thrown out in the trash, and many people do just that. The risk of getting caught doing that is very serious. Violators can be fined up to $1 million per offence, and there is a possibility of criminal conviction and imprisonment as well, if it is considered that the violation was wilful.
Plasterboard is another item that frequently is not thought of as potentially harmful. The gypsum content in plasterboard, however, can cause biodegradable waste it comes into contact with to release hydrogen sulphide gas, a foul smelling and toxic gas that can be fatal even in small doses.
Fluorescent tubes are another item that people frequently don’t realise are very dangerous. The mercury vapour contained in a fluorescent tube is present in a large enough quantity to cause serious harm to anyone who inhales it. The only legal way to dispose of fluorescent tubes is to hand them in at an authorised collection point.
Most other kinds of items are normally easy to figure out. If they’re dangerous in any way, you can’t legally dispose of them in a bin. That means things like chemicals, flammable liquids, compressed gas, toxic metals, poisons, explosives, and so on.
Because it’s better to be safe than sorry, you can contact Jim’s for advice if you’re uncertain about anything. You can also consult the Gympie Regional Council, Queensland state government, and the Environmental Protection Agency.
