Given how harmful waste disposal can be to the environment it is only right that the government enforces strict regulations on how we get rid of unwanted garbage. In order to limit the damage and recycle as much waste material as possible, it is essential that we manage our waste responsibly. So with that in mind, what can you put into a skip bin?
The answer to this question is dependent on the type of waste you want to dispose of. Let’s take a look at the various kinds of waste disposal and the materials that can be thrown into a skip:
General waste – the most common kind of domestic waste. Most household materials such as boxes, wood, cabinets, white goods, clothes and carpets can go into a skip. It is important not to put construction/demolition items into a skip with general waste. Bricks, concrete or soil must not be mixed with general household items.
Construction/renovation waste – waste from household refurbishment or the construction of a new building such as bricks, concrete, plaster and wood can be placed into a skip.
Dirt – large landscaping projects or garden clearing can produce plenty of soil, dirt and sand. Only these types of materials can go into a skip bin hired for such work.
Green waste – Organic waste such as grass clippings, branches, wood chips, bark, wood and fence posts can go into the same skip as they are all biodegradable. No other waste type should be mixed in with organic waste.
It is important to note that there are some materials that can never be placed in a skip of any kind regardless of the type of work you are undertaking. Putrescible – food waste, asbestos, hazardous waste, insulation material of any kind, liquids like paint, oils and chemicals, gas bottles, empty chemical containers and tree trunks. These items cannot be disposed of in a skip. If you wish to get rid of items such as these, then get in touch with us and we can best advise how to do so.
