Matt purchased the Jim’s Skip Bins (Glen Waverley) franchise after working for NEC for 10 years in the Telecommunications industry as a project manager and was looking for the next step in his career. Seeing the benefits of operating a small business and wanting to be his own boss, Matt looked into the franchise industry. Looking into the Jim’s brand and realising his affinity with Jim’s core values, the Jim’s Skip Bins division very quickly became the franchise of choice. Having started in mid-2010, expansion of his business is something that Matt is passionate about and will, at every opportunity; look for ways to grow his business. Starting with only 15 bins, he now has 40 bins in his fleet allowing for fast and friendly responses to urgent requests.
‘I’ve been involved in customer service since I was a teenager, starting work at McDonald’s during my school years I was soon promoted to a management role. I then moved from McDonalds to work in a call centre and then onto a telecommunications help desk. Was promoted to a customer service manager and eventually a project manager before starting my own business. Having then worked for NEC for 10 years I was looking for the next step in my career. To stay in the same industry that would have meant working in the city which I didn’t want to do. Looking at my options, I looked into starting a franchise and ended up with Jim’s Skip Bins.’
Matt has 2, 3, 4 and 6 metre bins available. The 3, 4 and 6 metre bins have rear opening doors to make loading easier. Customer’s requiring an 8 metre bin are offered 2 x 4m bins. This can be more convenient as the bins can be placed in separate locations on the property. The Jim’s Skip Bins website provides details of what types of waste can go in the bins, or give Matt a call who can advise you further.
When deciding on what size bin to order, the cost of the extra cubic metre is generally about the same cost or less of having to do a trailer load to the tip if you can’t fit it into the smaller size bin.
When loading the skip, to avoid wasting space, load the bin like you’re playing a game of tetris.
