Have you recently had a spring clean out of your house or redecorated? If so, you may have found yourself with piles of trash that you know don’t belong in the normal waste bin but are not quite sure what to do with.
Jim’s Skip Bins are here to help! It’s important to know that disposing of this waste in the correct way is of paramount importance, as not doing so may result in extra costs to yourself, as well as potential damage to the environment. Skip bins are the ideal solution to this problem, and, if you live in Dulwich or the surrounding areas, we know that we have the perfect skip bin for you.
It seems simple, right? It’s a general waste bin, so can’t I just put in anything? Well, to put it simply, no you can’t. The label of general waste is referring to the type of general waste that you may accrue as a result of a household waste clear-out. For example, any empty boxes, loose and useless bits of wood, old cabinets, toys that have been outgrown, clothes that no longer fit, and carpet that you have now replaced with shiny hardwood floors are all acceptable for the bins.
If you have any items that are made from any type of metal, we ask that you put these on the top of the bin so that we can easily dispose of these separately from the rest of the items.
It can not be stressed how important it is to follow the guidelines we provide on what you can’t include in these bins. Local councils have enforced strict rules on what you can and can not dispose if in skip bins, as disposing of certain materials in the wrong way can result in damage to the environment and a costly bill to safely process them.
As a general piece of advice, we advise not to put any form of brick, concrete, or soil into the general waste bin, as this will result in the bin being contaminated and, most likely, a hefty new bill for you. Also, there are several items which are not acceptable to dispose of in any of our bins, not just the general waste bin. These items include putrescible waste, for example, food waste, any hazardous waste, any insulation materials, and any liquids, to name a few.
If you have items that you need removing from your property but are not suitable for skip bins, such as mattresses or tyres, then please let us know, and we can arrange disposal of these items for a small additional fee.
